Paul Merton and Suki Webster’s Improv Show Review

As improvised comedy goes, Paul Merton and Suki Webster have established themselves as two of the UK’s best. Transitioning from the Improv Chum’s banner to Paul and Suki equally sharing the limelight, this show is improv comedy at its strongest.

Featuring a rotating rostra of Improv greats and newcomers, within this performance, we were treated to two well-known improvisers joining Paul and Suki, were Whose Line alumni and crowd favourite Mike Mcshane, joined by Austentatious star, Charlotte Gittins. The four performers are masters at their craft and they move from situation to situation effortlessly.

Some of the highlights in this fully improvised performance include a game where each performer must change a response by the other performer saying “Change”, in this example, we saw two people discussing stamp collecting. As each response prompted hilarity, you see truly how quickly Paul and Suki could come up with witty responses on the spot. The rest of the show is a mixture of games and musical performances which are fully improvised and is a good mix of focus on Paul and Suki, and giving time for Mike and Charlotte to showcase their abilities.

Improvised comedy and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival go hand in hand and it’s great to see this so alive in this year’s offering. A return to improvised comedy on TV would be great, as The Fringe shows, so many talented professionals do this so well, so it would be great to see this translated in some form over to TV, is it possibly time for a Whose Line is it Anyway revival?

Strap in for a really funny and incredibly spontaneous hour of comedy and improv. With a rotating cast, no show is the same and is the perfect show to see on multiple occasions.
